Got Moose?...not this year!

This year marked Ron's 11th season moose hunting here in Dillingham. It also marked the first year he went on his yearly meat shopping trip and came up empty! Aw, man!!

However, he did get a bear...by necessity, not by design. When the bear spotted him, she paused and then decided on the direct route...straight at him. Exciting, but he says he could live a long time without that kind of excitement again!

Thanks to friends we have moose in the freezer to carry us through to the winter hunt. This is especially appreciated by our children who were horrified at the thought of having to eat beef. :)

I will ask Ron to relate details of the bear "hunt". For now I hope this picture will suffice!

Grammy's visit

At the end of January my mom flew to Alaska to speak at the womens retreat at Tanalian Bible Camp. We had a wonderful week-end of fun and laughter and tears as my mom guided the group through building our house to last through the seasons of life.
My mom detoured to Dillingham after the retreat to stay with us for a week. We had such fun visiting, laughing, playing games and loving on each other! The kids adored having Grammy here and shortly after she left I was asked when Papa (my dad) would be coming to visit. When I said that Papa is not fond of cold and snow, the boys quickly decided that we would have to go to him!
What a blessing it was to get to see my momma three times in one year! Although we keep in close touch by phone and email and mail, it is not often that we get to spend time together face to face. We had Kendra's wedding in October, then we visited California right after the wedding, then mom came to AK in January. God is so good!
